Maryam Askari began her yoga studies at Yogaworks in 1991 and in order to deepen her understanding of yoga, she followed her teacher Maty Ezraty's advice and dedicated herself in studying and trying in the Iyengar yoga system.

She moved to France in 2001 to further study with Faeq and Corine Biria, and continues to study with them in Paris whenever possible.

Faeq Biria encouraged Maryam to become a certified Iyengar teacher while she was in Paris. Maryam was certified in 2005.

She continues to study with senior teachers around the world and believes in remaining a dedicated student in order to teach well.

Maryam enjoys spending her free time giving back and she has dedicated several hours a week in teaching at a sober house living called “Awakening recovery”.

Maryam’s favorite part of yoga is the therapeutic aspect of it and she has spent many hours of study along side Eric Small who trained her vigorously on how to work with MS patients at the UCLA medical center. She has also assisted many hours in the medical classes at the Iyengar Institute of Paris, as well as in Pune, India.

Outer Beauty, Inner Calm

Maryam considers the power of our mind our greatest resource, using asana and breath to focus and still the mind. As she says: “where our thoughts go, our energy flows.” This is the heart of the Iyengar yoga system. Her sensitive and intuitive teaching approach is immediately captivating and adapted to practitioners of all levels. Maryam constantly reminds her students that strength and flexibility are nothing without proper alignment – and believes it is within that precision of the alignment that the healing powers of our breath are revealed.
